I think DarkTable needs to fine tune some parts and it will be very nice. There are some methods how it handles highlights and shadows I do not like while C1P does this job by far better for my eyes. I do like Darktable the 3-pass markensteijn demoasic works very nice. I will report if desired on the progress of my findings. Just thinking about using windows runs ice cold down my back.Īnyway it needs to keep up fine, although the handling is a bit "less intuitive" "why easy if it works complicated" but I get used to it. Just imagine I have installed windows for using Fuji raw files how insane ! One big plus point is it runs on my Linux system which I used pre Fuji as I was an canon 5DII user. I can use all features even with Fuji X-trans sensor!Īhh I am an pixel peeper but so far there was no desire for any sharpening (main complaint on adobe which is always the first must do after processing) IQ wise it seems to be fine but I need a few days time for all the tasks. I can not talk about Adobe as I don't have this software active and trial is over. UBUNTU DARKTABLE 1.6 PROThe conversation speed is by far better as Capture One Pro which I currently still use. I need to grab a few hundred pictures and process them a bit an see if my feelings stay the same. Since I can not have Adobe/Capture One and Darktable side by side, my impression is subjective. The RAW rendering is indeed better as expected. I just have tested this Software on Linux. Wish they had a Windows version, but they look at is as being the end of times and speak of Windows even less highly than they did of supporting Xtrans a couple years ago. It looks pretty good for a first try at supporting this color filter. The more people we have using it and commenting back to the developers, the better the support will be. UBUNTU DARKTABLE 1.6 INSTALLSince it is free, anyone that can install it might want to give it a look. While this is far from a complete review, so far so good after the first few minutes of using this software. A shot of a small waterfall in early winter, the green moss on the rocks would turn into a mushy green mess with some applications.Įven with the default fastest demosaic processor (VNG) in Darktable, you get a mess.īut the slower and more intensive Markesteijn 3 pass seems to do a pretty good job, despite the iso 6400 image. I took an image that exhibits the watercolor effect with many raw developers. So why do any of you care about this? Well because this is the first version to support Xtrans and from my initial tests it seems to do a decent job. This is also available for OSX, but not Windows. I'll take a look at a Ubuntu Studio 14.x LTS when I get to work tomorrow, but I think it is up to date as well. So, I just got Darktable 1.6 loaded up on my CentOS 7 computer and gave it a quick try, this is available from the nux desktop repo which also requires epel repo.
